Sunset in White Sands National Park, New Mexico, USA.
In what has almost become a tradition in my years of photography, I was walking back to the car when the sky suddenly lit up in front of me. I know that this light lasts only few minutes, so, if I hadn't prepared a composition before hand, and in this case I hadn't, I only had a very short amount of time to choose the subject, place the tripod, mount the camera, compose and shoot.
We are talking of quite literally five to ten minutes.
I'm used to it, and as much as I love to take my sweet time when I compose, I don't stress out when the opportunity arises, because I know I can compose on the fly rather accurately when necessary. Luckily I had been shooting these small dunes all day and this subject was relatively straight forward to compose: leading lines over leading lines straight to the clouds.
When I present images like this one, the question is always "did it really look like that?".
